Title: The Lord Serbian Orthodox - Sretenje Monastery
Post by: Bob Dunbar on November 22, 2008, 10:18:31 PM
Have you noticed the Serbian signs up Hidden Trails Rd., and in front of the monument? If you take a walk up Old Guejito Grade Rd., you will find the beginnings of a new monastery.

According to their  website (http://www.westsrbdio.org/SRETENJE_Monastery/monastery_fundraiser_sept6_2008.html), the only way in or out is through our community.  Existing Topographic Site Plan (http://www.westsrbdio.org/SRETENJE_Monastery/Maketa01.gif)

Directions to the Monastery:
Take highway 78, which turns into Lincoln Parkway, east. Turn south on Broadway, then east on Washington Ave. Go across Bear Valley Parkway (highway S6) and Washington becomes Hidden Trails Rd. Turn east (left) at Meadow Creek, which turns into Guejito Grade Rd. at the pipe-framed gate. At the fork go right, which is Stonebridge Rd. and that brings you onto the monastery grounds.

I've downloaded a couple flyers that help describe the process of gaining County approval for this new monastery.

A New Children's Camp in Southern California - Youth Lenten Retreat- Camping in Monastery Sretenje in Escondido.

A group of twenty pilgrim-adventurers, consisting of teenagers, children and adults arrived to the Monastery grounds at dusk on Friday, March 20, prepared with sleeping bags, tents, and excitement.

The monastery, located in a deep valley and surrounded by the echoing hills of Escondido and its gentle streams, made a peaceful impression setting a powerful tone for our retreat. The single monastic cell, in which His Grace, Bishop Maxim stayed to be with us, suddenly became surrounded by tents that looked much like forest mushrooms.

In the heart of a dark yet star-lit night, a campfire illuminated stories that sparked our youth’s fascination for the beauty of God’s creation. While bedding down for the night, our happy voices were only dwarfed by the sounds of birds chirping and frogs croaking.
