Escondido / Escondido Eases Water Restrictions
« on: October 10, 2016, 03:42:57 PM »
On August 17, 2016, the Escondido City Council voted to ease water restrictions from a Response Level 2 to a Response Level 1- Water Shortage Watch Condition. The approval removes the three days per week, seven minutes per station outdoor watering restrictions that had been in place since June 2015.

Local Restaurants / Vintana
« on: July 10, 2011, 01:36:35 AM »
Opening sometime in the first quarter of 2012, Vintana will serve California-style cuisine to be developed by Executive Chef Deborah Scott.

The name Vintana is inspired by the restaurant’s facade of windows (ventana in Spanish) and the eatery’s focus on wines (vin).

Local Restaurants / Sand Crab Cafe
« on: March 14, 2011, 02:38:50 AM »

The original Sand Crab Tavern opened in 1988, and was purchased Christmas 2010 by new owner Captain Sandy. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside, and has a great nautical theme. Food is dumped in front of you on top of butcher paper, and usually accompanies a mallet and a bucket of beer. Not too hard to find down by the SPRINTER Nordahl Rd Station. A fun family experience.

Could I have you take down the map to the hidden valley range on this post?

Seems there have been some shooters that are going to this private range without permission and using AP rounds on the steel.

SDTS has unofficially been renting this range 1 day a month, however it seems that some people believe this is BLM land and they can use it whenever and however they like.

We are hoping things will change before the owner decides that allowing match events to happen should end at his range.

Thanks for understanding.

Best regards,

Local Restaurants / Re 2: 150 Grand Cafe
« on: August 14, 2010, 12:27:09 PM »
150 Grand will be renamed "The Grand Place" when it reopens in late September, and will feature a jazz bar and large dance floor.

Mousavi bought 150 Grand in January, six months after the famed restaurant closed. He has spent nearly $200,000 since then remodeling the inside. He hopes to hire a chef in the next few weeks and open next month, he said.

Reed Reservoir Replacement

The City of Escondido has signed a contract with Gateway Pacific Contractors to replace the existing reservoir located on Hidden Trails with two new concrete tanks.  The contractor will be given a Notice to Proceed on June 14, 2010, the expected duration of the contract will be approximately 18 months.  All planned work will be contained within the existing reservoir site.  In the near future you can expect to see a construction trailer moved onto the site.  The first work to take place will include removing trees and vegetation in all areas where work is to be done and installing temporary above ground pipeline to replace an existing pipe that goes south from the existing tank down the canyon towards the San Pasqual Valley.

The restrictions were triggered by the council declaring a "Level 2" water emergency, which many other cities and water agencies have done this spring.

The new rules will take effect July 01st.

Local Restaurants / Hacienda de Vega
« on: April 05, 2009, 11:19:27 PM »
Hacienda de Vega brings traditional gourmet Mexico City cuisine to Escondido. The husband and wife team of Patricia and Alonso Vega remodeled and restored the freestanding building formerly known as Los Amigos Restaurant in an original adobe home dating back to the 1930s. Beautiful grounds, complete with a pond and fountain, make a lovely backdrop for house specialties such as tableside-made guacamole, chicken mole and fresh corn chowder.

“At Hacienda de Vega, it is our true intention to bring you a taste of some of the real regional cuisines of Mexico – past and present.  From the pleasures of antojitos with their different salsas and cheese, to the enjoyment of elaborate guisos, with their adobos, moles and recados, we hope that you enjoy and savor these true traditional recipes and that they summon feelings of comfort, family, and of being home."

Nominated for Best Mexican Restaurant by AOL City Guide for the fourth consecutive year.

Hacienda de Vega is located at 2608 S. Escondido Blvd. , Escondido 92025 .  The telephone number of the restaurant is (760) 738-9804.  Its web site address is http://www.haciendadevega.com.

Hidden Trails / Re 2: The Lord Serbian Orthodox - Sretenje Monastery
« on: March 29, 2009, 09:03:51 PM »
A New Children's Camp in Southern California - Youth Lenten Retreat- Camping in Monastery Sretenje in Escondido.

A group of twenty pilgrim-adventurers, consisting of teenagers, children and adults arrived to the Monastery grounds at dusk on Friday, March 20, prepared with sleeping bags, tents, and excitement.

The monastery, located in a deep valley and surrounded by the echoing hills of Escondido and its gentle streams, made a peaceful impression setting a powerful tone for our retreat. The single monastic cell, in which His Grace, Bishop Maxim stayed to be with us, suddenly became surrounded by tents that looked much like forest mushrooms.

In the heart of a dark yet star-lit night, a campfire illuminated stories that sparked our youth’s fascination for the beauty of God’s creation. While bedding down for the night, our happy voices were only dwarfed by the sounds of birds chirping and frogs croaking.

General Discussion / Re: Neighborhood Info
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:59:50 PM »
Hello and welcome to our community.

The trails run through a working avocado orchard called Beacon Hills. This land is being worked and they understandably don't want the public to get in the way or become injured.

At one time a city road ran through the area, and out to Guejito Ranch (Old Guejito Grade Rd.). This has since been turned over to private owners and is marked as such.

I would recommend you speak with the orchard manager (Henry Avocado - 745-6632) about the possibility of walking the trails. Please keep us posted.
